WHAT IS A BEGINNER ‘BACK TO BASICS’ MOUNTAIN BIKE COACHING PROGRAM?

Our beginner ‘Back to Basics’ mountain bike coaching program is for people who are either a) new to mountain biking or, b) someone who wants to get back to the grass roots of mountain bike skills to be sure they have it right.
Momentum Is Your Friend employs PMBIA and MTBA accredited coaches.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Fundamentals. Often new riders develop bad habits. Our beginner ‘Back to Basics’ mountain bike coaching program is designed to make sure you learn the basics of mountain biking correctly and develop core skills you can build on. We will teach you the skills to check your bike before riding, to safely negotiate basic mtb trails and what you need to be self-sufficient while out riding. Each session is tailored to advance your mountain biking skills with a view to quickly elevating you from a beginner rider to someone who can confidently head out on the trails and enjoy themselves.

Skills learned will include:

  • Correct positioning on the bike
  • Choosing the best lines
  • Cornering
  • Correct gear changing
  • Correct braking
  • Getting over small obstacles
  • and more.

Note: Session and program content may be altered at the coaches discretion for reasons of safety, weather, to better cater for the riders or other requirements.

“I have a mountain bike but I’m scared to ride it on mountain bike trails.”
“I would just like to learn properly.”
“I have not mountain biked in a long time and need to brush up on my skills.”
“I can ride ok but struggle to get over logs or down hills.”

If any of these statements sound like you then perhaps our beginner group courses are for you.

SESSIONS

Our beginner ‘Back to Basics’ mountain bike coaching program consists of up to 5 sessions and delivered over several weeks.
These are group sessions for people from 13 yrs old and up. Each group may contain up to approx 8 riders and typically last for around 3 hours.

WHAT YOU NEED

Mountain Bike

Although your mountain bike can be entry level, it is required that your bike is fitted with mountain bike tyres and not touring/semi-slick tyres. If you are unsure, please ask us. We do ask that, to the best of your ability, that you try to ensure your bike is in good working order prior to the class.

Helmet

You are required to wear a correctly fitting, Australian approved helmet during all sessions.

Knee and/or Elbow Pads (optional)

Although not compulsory, we do recommend considering extra protection in the form of soft shell pads. You not only gain the protection but also the confidence that comes from knowing you have the protection.
