FAQs

Q?

What if I hurt myself?

A.

This is very unlikely in a controlled environment with a professional coaching company. However, if it did happen for some unforeseen reason, our coaches hold current 1st Aid certificates and carry 1st aid kits with them during sessions and have a major 1st aid kit back at the car as well. Thankfully, the skills we teach go a long way to ensuring you crash less or not at all.

Q?

I’m slow so will a group session be ok for me?

A.

Yes. Our group sessions are not about riding fast for 2 hours. We roll casually to each spot to learn each skill. The speed and pace you need for each skill varies but unless you are in an intermediate session working specifically on a speed skill, it's not a problem. The important thing is that you learn the fundamentals of each skill correctly. Speed on the bike comes from having those skills, fitness is only a part of it. So, whether you are fast or slow certainly doesn't matter in beginner group sessions at all and even in intermediate sessions we roll between the learning spots so you will be fine there also.

Q?

What if I don’t seem to be learning as quickly as others in my group?

A.

Everybody is different and most people learn at different speeds than others. Some will pick up one skill quickly, yet struggle to learn another. Others will learn all skills quickly while others learn at a slower pace. If we think a group session is simply not going to benefit you fully then we will let you know quietly and suggest our personal sessions instead. In the end however, everyone is welcome in the group sessions so as long as you take away the fundamental points you need, you can practice those in your own time.

Q?

Are the group sessions mixed gender?

A.

Our standard group sessions are open to both male and female riders. Having said that, we find female riders tend to make up the majority of the groups. Our coaches are known for their empathy toward women during coaching. We understand the crucial differences in biology between men and women and therefore adjust our techniques as needed individual to individual.

We do sometimes offer girls only sessions so watch out for those.

Q?

What do I need to bring?

A.

All clients must wear the minimum Personal Protective Equipment – Mountain Bike Helmet, Cycling Glasses and Gloves. Knee Pads and Elbow Pads can be worn if required. It is strongly advised that clients also wear appropriate breathable/comfortable clothing designed for General Sports or specific Mountain Bike use. A small backpack would also be useful to carry spare clothing, food and equipment. Clients should be aware that we will be riding in a wild and hostile environment where the weather can change suddenly and without warning.

All clients are to ensure they bring enough Food and Water to last them throughout the day. Mountain Biking can be physically arduous and combined with potential adverse weather can reduce energy levels significantly.

Clients are respectfully asked to bring their own spare brake pads compatible with their own brake systems and also their own size specific spare Inner tubes. All other emergency spares may be available by Momentum Is Your Friend as required.

Q?

What happens if I have an accident?

A.

Mountain Biking can be an inherently dangerous activity by design. Momentum Is Your Friend will provide you with training in an appropriately safe working environment and provide you with a fully Qualified and Insured, Coach or Guide. Clients will not be placed under any pressure to perform skills if they do not feel comfortable in doing so.

We HIGHLY recommend all participants have current AMBULANCE cover and PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE and/Or Aus Cycling membership which comes with a very good personal accident cover. See: www.auscycling.org.au/

We will not be responsible for any medical costs whatsoever. Further, in case of serious accidents an Ambulance will be called as a matter of FIRST PRIORITY. You the participant will be responsible for costs associated should you require an Ambulance.

All clients are required to sign and agree that they participate on the training at their own risk, and that the Momentum Is Your Friend  coach will take all reasonable steps to establish as safe an environment as possible through the risk assessment process before and during the activities.
