Q?

How does the Coronavirus affect coaching/skills sessions?

A.

In response to the current Coronavirus crisis we are only running private XC sessions. We are not running any of our group sessions.

With friends and associates in the medical profession, we are assured that our private xc sessions are safe to continue.
We are watching the government directives and making sure we comply with those as they are released. We are also governed by NSW Forestry and National Parks and Wildlife, both of whom we have permits to operate in their forests and reserves etc so we are complying with their directives as well.
We will be enforcing strict Social Distancing beyond the current advised distance at all times during our private xc sessions.

If you book a private session with us be ready to observe and follow the precautions below:

  • Keep space between yourself and others - our coaches and students at each session are to keep the current government and health advised minimum distances from other people at all times,
  • Don’t shake hands or hug anybody,
  • Avoid touching anything that is not yours including water bottles, bikes, bike gear or bike tools etc,
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with tissue or a flexed elbow, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as much as possible.
  • If a student/participant shows up with signs of sickness we are required to turn them back home and ask them to call their doctor. As our skills instructor(s) have been engaged for the day's booking, no refund can be given.
  • If you've booked in and then feel sick in any way after making your booking but before your booking day, please let us know and you're booking will be cancelled and refunded.

Q?

What if I hurt myself?

A.

This is very unlikely in a controlled environment with a PMBIA qualified coaching company like Momentum Is Your Friend. Our very progressive approach to each skill lets you only do what you feel comfortable doing and everything is reduced into 'bite' sized' chunks so to speak. However, if it did happen and you sustained an injury for some unforeseen reason, our coaches hold current 1st Aid certificates and carry 1st aid kits with them during sessions and have a major 1st kit back at the car as well. Thankfully, the skills we teach go a long way to ensuring you crash less or not at all.

Mountain Biking can be an inherently dangerous activity by design. Momentum Is Your Friend will provide you with training in an appropriately safe working environment and provide you with a fully Qualified and Insured, Coach or Guide. Participants will not be placed under any pressure to perform skills if they do not feel comfortable in doing so.

We HIGHLY recommend all participants have current AMBULANCE cover and PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE and/Or MTBA membership which comes with a very good personal accident cover. See: www.mtba.asn.au
We will not be responsible for any medical costs whatsoever. Further, in case of serious accidents an Ambulance will be called as a matter of FIRST PRIORITY. You the participant will be responsible for costs associated should you require an Ambulance.

All Participants are required to sign and agree that they participate on the training at their own risk, and that the Momentum Is Your Friend coach will take all reasonable steps to establish as safe an environment as possible through the risk assessment process before and during the activities.

Q?

I’m slow so will a group session be ok for me?

A.

Yes. Our group sessions are not about riding fast for 3 hours or more. The emphasis is on the skills/technique for each individual, not being the fastest or best in the group.
We roll casually to each spot to learn each skill. The speed and pace you need for each skill varies but unless you are in an intermediate session working specifically on a speed skill, it's not a problem.
The important thing is that you learn the fundamentals of each skill correctly. Speed on the bike comes from having and practicing those skills, fitness is only a part of it.
So, whether you are fast or slow certainly doesn't matter in beginner group sessions at all and even in intermediate sessions we roll between the learning spots so you will be fine there also.

Q?

What if I don’t seem to be learning as quickly as others in my group?

A.

Everybody is different and most people learn at different speeds than others. Some will pick up one skill quickly, yet struggle to learn another. Others will learn all skills quickly while others learn at a slower pace.
We recognize and respond positively to an individual's anxiety, and furthermore, understand everyone's anxiety levels are different for a host of reasons. We'll do our best to cater to your specific needs as best the group environment allows.
If we think future group sessions are simply not going to benefit you fully, then we will let you know quietly and suggest our personal sessions instead. In the end however, everyone is welcome in the group sessions so as long as you take away the fundamental points you need, you can practice those in your own time.

Q?

Are the group sessions mixed gender?

A.

Our standard group sessions are open to both male and female riders. Having said that, we find female riders tend to make up the majority of the beginner groups while male riders make up the majority of the intermediate groups. Although occasionally it's closer to 50/50%.  Our coaches are known for their empathy toward women during coaching (and some men of course). We understand the crucial differences in biology between men and women and therefore adjust our techniques as needed individual to individual.

We do sometimes offer women's only sessions so watch out for those.

Q?

What do I need to bring?

A.

Not too much. Below is a list of the usual things to remember to bring along.

  • An Australian approved mountain bike helmet - A correct sized and tightly adjusted helmet is compulsory.
  • MTB - A mountain bike (MTB) suitable for off-road and fitted with tyres suitable for riding on dirt.
  • Glasses - Clear or sunglasses and gloves are highly recommended.
  • Knee and elbow protection - Knee pads and elbow pads can be worn in any session/class and are highly recommended and even compulsory during some more advanced classes. This will be made clear at booking when the class requirements include specific protective gear.
  • Sports clothing - It is strongly advised that you also wear appropriate breathable/comfortable clothing designed for general sports or specific mountain bike use. MTB techniques can require a lot of body and body part freedom of movement so clothing that doesn't restrict your movements is necessary.
  • Storage - A small hydro-pack is also recommended to carry a light rain jacket (if the weather looks iffy), snacks, spare tube and any other equipment you might like to bring along.
  • Food and Water - Bring enough snacks/food and water to last you throughout the session/class. Mountain Biking can be physically arduous and combined with potential adverse weather can reduce energy levels significantly.

Clients should be aware that we could be riding well away from the car-park in an environment where the weather can change suddenly and without warning.

Q?

How can I pay for my skills session?

A.

All our bookings can be done online at this website.
We accept Visa and MasterCard credit cards for your convenience.
If, for some reason, you are unable to book and pay online (your browser cookies are required to be turned on), then simply email us with a phone number to call and we'll take your booking and payment over the phone.

Q?

Will I get a confirmation of my booking? What if I don’t?

A.

Yes, you will! After booking and paying you will receive a confirmation via email with the details of your session.

If you do not receive this email shortly after booking online:

  1. Check your email junk folder in case it went in there.
  2. Assume you put your email address in incorrectly into the booking form, and send us an email from your own email program with your address typed into the content as well. We can then use that to fix the form and resend your confirmation email.

Q?

Can I cancel my skills session?

A.

Yes, you can cancel your session.
A full refund is available for cancellation with more than 7 days prior to the course/training/session start date. A cancellation less than 7 days to the course/training/session start date will result in Momentum Is Your Friend retaining 100% of the course/training/session fees. Momentum Is Your Friend cannot cater for refund requests arising from injuries, sickness or illness (of any type), change of mind or other reasons a client or clients may have.
Please Note: No transfers from one course/training/session will be given in the event a client or clients can not attend for any reason. If more than 7 days notice is given a refund may apply.
